I recently started working in East Harlem, needed some shirts dry-cleaned for work, and wanted to support a local business in the new neighborhood I was working in. Simple, right?

On 05/01/2018 I dropped off three shirts, asked for next day service, and was given a receipt saying the clothes would be ready at 5PM. The cashier who worked at the time was friendly and courteous. At 5:10PM on 05/02/2018 I arrive, present my dry cleaning receipt, and ask for my shirts. The same cashier politely asked me to wait while she located my shirts. After about three minutes she couldn't find them, asked me to wait longer and proceeded to help the following customer without giving an explanation of why I didn't have my shirts yet or why she was helping someone else who was behind me in line before resolving my issue.

When the cashier finished helping the following customer, she explained that she was having trouble finding two of my three shirts and needed more time to look for it. After five more minutes she returned to me and explained that the other two shirts were not ready because they were dirty and needed to be cleaned again.

I asked her why she or anyone else in her store's staff didn't think to call me to let me know about the delay in 'guaranteed service.' She told me she wanted to make sure the shirt was cleaned properly which caused a delay and asked me to return tomorrow. When I told her that she's not answering my question, another worker came and explained that the shirts were being pressed at the moment and would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes. Sensing BS, I let the cashier know I will return the next day and left the store—no apology and no discount for my inconvenience.

On 5/3/18 I returned and got my shirts, thankfully. Two of the shirts were extremely dirty (spilled a drink on my collar) and they were both good as new. I’d give 2.5 stars if I could. Great cleaning. Poor service.
